Diamond Shape

The first thing to decide when purchasing a diamond is the shape of the stone. There are nine major shapes of cut diamonds.

Of these nine shapes, the most common by far is the round diamond. Rounds are the most classic shape, the most brilliant of all the diamond shapes, the most standardized, and the easiest to shop for.

Choosing and buying a diamond can seem like a confusing, complicated and mysterious process, but it doesn't have to be that way. If you spend 20 minutes reading these pages, you will know enough to be sure you're choosing the diamond that is right for you and your budget.

The basics 4C's are Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat weight. We have also included two more categories to help you in your decision - Certification and Shapes. If you are a beginner and need to get some background information about diamonds, please read the information on the 4 C's, Certification and Shapes.
